About Us

Care that’s practical, respectful, and built for real life.

At Family Behavioral Health, we provide evidence-based counseling for individuals, couples, and families—with a specialty in problem gambling—and offer clinical supervision for counselors. We create clear, personalized plans that build stability, strengthen relationships, and support lasting change. Led by Dorothy Capers, LPC-S.

Sliding Fee Schedule

Our practice is committed to making healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation. We offer a Sliding Fee Schedule to ensure that those in need of assistance can receive quality care. The Sliding Fee Schedule is based on household income and family size, and provides reduced fees for individuals who qualify. Please contact our office to discuss your eligibility and receive an application.

Non-Discrimination Policy

We are dedicated to providing services in a manner that respects the dignity of every individual. In accordance with federal and state law, we do not discriminate against any individual on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. We believe everyone deserves equal access to care and support.

Ability to Pay

We understand that financial circumstances vary from person to person. If you are unable to pay the full cost of services, please reach out to discuss alternative payment options. We are committed to working with you to ensure that your financial situation does not prevent you from receiving the care you need.

Led by Dorothy Capers,
LICSW

Dorothy Capers is a licensed clinician and supervisor with 25 years of experience. Her work is grounded in the belief that mental health is not a luxury and that true strength is more than “pushing through.” Drawing on a trauma-informed, evidence-based approach, she helps clients understand how trauma can reshape relationships, routines, and self-perception. Dorothy specializes in problem gambling and integrative counseling for individuals, couples, and families, and she provides structured clinical supervision for counselors. Her focus is helping people who meet daily expectations yet feel disconnected, struggle with sleep, or lose interest in what they once enjoyed—guiding them to regain a steadier sense of self, or discover it for the first time.

Meet

In 2015, I lost a sibling to a mental health crisis—an experience that profoundly shaped my commitment to supporting individuals navigating emotional pain, trauma, and life’s most difficult moments. I understand loss, fear, social injustice, displacement, and uncertainty not just academically, but personally. These experiences have strengthened my belief in the healing power of compassion, connection, and culturally attuned care. I hold deep respect for the resilience people carry, even when they feel overwhelmed or hopeless.

My therapeutic approach is person-centered and solution-focused. I follow my clients’ lead, honoring their pace and their lived experiences. Rather than directing or pushing, I walk alongside each person in a collaborative process. I draw from evidence-based practices—including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—to assess, evaluate, and identify treatment options that support healing, insight, and growth. My goal is to help clients reconnect with their strengths, develop a sense of ownership in their therapeutic journey, and rediscover themselves with clarity and confidence.

I bring over five years of experience as a clinical social worker, with specialized training in CPT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, and trauma-informed care. My work has included supporting:

  • Military personnel and their families
  • Individuals experiencing homelessness or substance use challenges
  • Women facing pregnancy-related depression
  • People navigating trauma, identity, and the complexities of daily life

I also help clients access external resources and community supports to strengthen their overall well-being.
